GÖRKEM DİKEL'S “ANTIHERO: THE ARTIST'S JOURNEY” EXHIBITION AT MERKUR

Görkem Dikel's solo exhibition at MERKUR explores the phases of an artist's life story in the context of the mythic cycles of the protagonist. Görkem, who constructs her compositions by projecting her own and other people's shadows on canvas, bases the subject of the exhibition on her ongoing doctoral thesis titled "Questioning Myths and Unconscious Images in the Production of an Artist" at Mimar Sinan FAU.

The exhibition is inspired by certain phases that mythologists call 'monomythic cycles'. At the beginning, our protagonist, who receives a call like the Anunciation to Mary, a cult composition in the history of art, embarks on a journey across the interdimensional Threshold and on this journey, the shadow archetypes in her own psyche, she fights against rogues and demons, which is Tests stage, escapes from the Belly of the Whale, reconciles with her king father or queen mother (Atonement), and manages to bring the elixir of immortality, peace and tranquility back to her village (Return of the Elixir). Then we see the stages of Resurrection and becoming the Master of Two Worlds.

Görkem Dikel graduated from Mimar Sinan University in 2012, Department of Painting.
