ARZU AKGÜN'S “SPONTANEOUS PASSIONS” EXHIBITION AT MERKUR
Arzu Akgun, who is represented by Merkur, will be presenting her new works in her second solo exhibition titled "Spontaneous Passions" between April 9 - April 30, 2012.
Arzu Akgün says the following about the works in her new series called "Spontaneous Passions": "The basic functions of our daily lives are transformed into consumer products. The creation process in my exhibition emerges from these consumption materials themselves. By using existing elements and forms (shop windows, shopping spaces, etc.), I want to emphasize the connection I have established with objects and the individual. I bring make-up materials and aesthetic-looking female figures, which I also think of as objects of passion, into my paintings. Thus, I benefit from the rich visual layer of consumer objects. My aim is not to repaint an existing object, but to use them according to an original intention or to make changes to them..."
Akgün's unique technique draws attention in the paintings dominated by the female image and consumer culture in the exhibition that the artist sets out from these facts. Reinterpreting the wood printing technique, a traditional method, the artist has developed a unique attitude. Arzu Akgün metamorphoses her paintings, which she creates by intervening on the wooden surface, by moving the figures to the third dimension and with the color palette she uses.
Arzu Akgün's exhibition titled "Spontaneous Passions" can be seen at Merkur between April 9 - April 30, 2012.
