“The most intellectual Chinese writer of the 20th century, Lu Xun (1981-1936), once experienced a muffled dream that did not wake the sleeper, but in which all the air around him resounded with this laughter. He talked about an autumn night when he heard 'Midnight Laughter'. If autumn night is used here as a metaphor for modern China, showing the glory and legacy of its history and its rapid evolution to a more western model, then the artistic practice of all artists would be that muffled but laughter that echoes throughout the whole air. In other words, what artists do is participate in the past, present and future, using their distinctive voices, in a season when nights are longer than days, when light meets darkness and the two intersect with social histories and the human spirit.” Aimee Lin
